BSB Vendor Round-Up: Giving Tuesday

The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is called ‘Giving Tuesday’ and is one of our favorite days of the year. Giving Tuesday is all about dedicating your holiday time, love, energy, $, to a non-profit near and dear to your heart vs. spending money on useless decorative soap sets for your grandparents, for the sake of checking them off the gift list. In honor of today, we wanted to take a moment and identify how some of our vendor-friends are using their businesses to GIVE BACK on this great occasion. 2016-gt-logo-wdate1 Love Offering: Well we had the people in my lettering workshop write Christmas cards to the military. And tomorrow we will finish passing out our thank you cards from the summer to our Police Department. 14289911_1146256025451336_9018032491357709239_o 15271746_10208466669412435_1390219805_o  Finny Hill PhotographyFinny Hill will be selling Limited Edition prints and donating a portion of all sales to the A21 Campaign, that Danielle will also be supporting this December, through the Dressember Challenge. screen-shot-2016-11-29-at-10-09-08-am Larkspur + Laurel: I’ve committed to donating 10% of all sales from 11/24-11/29 to Standing Rock. 15085728_734939663324751_1257517735511006459_n Pop Goes The Party : We are supporting Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas County personally and through our business. 5 Reasons to be Grateful for a Disaster Wedding

*Editor Note: It’s been exactly one week since Hurricane Matthew came through the Caribbean and coast lines of Florida, GA, and the Carolinas. This storm brought so much devastation, loss of life, property damage, demolished communities and ruined quite a few wedding plans, but one of our BSB vendors, Finny Hill Photography, used the unexpected natural landscape to bring beauty to the beastly circumstances. We reached out to Finny Hill to see if their couple would like to take a moment to tell us 5 reasons they were grateful for the way their unplanned BIG Day turned out, their responses couldn’t have melted our hearts bigger. Thank you to Stephanie and Joshua for sharing their gracious hearts with all of us.*  finny-hill-photography_travel-photographers_stephjosh-wedding_017 Five reasons we are grateful to have gotten married during hurricane Matthew (in no particular order)

1. Appreciation for Community

When things fall apart, you have a choice; you can let them stay in a heap on the floor or you can pick them back up and keep trying. Through Hurricane Matthew trying to crash our wedding, we were able to see our community (people we don’t even know personally), dear friends, family, and insanely amazing photographers/vendors, rally together to make our wedding happen- no matter the circumstances. Talk about feeling loved. finny-hill-photography_travel-photographers_stephjosh-wedding_009

2. Unity Through The Unexpected

Josh and I rarely shy away from a challenge; we are always eager to learn lessons and strengthen our bond. This was an opportunity for us to unite together and truly see what our relationship was made of. We stayed grounded and held each other up through the many hardships thrown our way. finny-hill-photography_travel-photographers_stephjosh-wedding_003 finny-hill-photography_travel-photographers_stephjosh-wedding_015

3. Actively Choosing Happiness

We were able to confirm a belief we share, that we have the ability to choose happiness no matter the situation, which is exactly what we did. Even after our vendors, friends, and family cancelled on us, we kept choosing happiness. finny-hill-photography_travel-photographers_stephjosh-wedding_011

4. Unique Story

No one will have a story like ours. Beginning our day by clearing our ceremony sight of fallen trees and debris, frantic phone calls to push the reception to Sunday, getting married without power (in what ended up being perfect weather) with only immediate family and our closest friends, partying by candlelight and dancing to the sounds played on a Bluetooth speaker. These moments are where the memories are made. finny-hill-photography_travel-photographers_stephjosh-wedding_016

5. Back To The (Original)Basics

From the beginning, Josh and I secretly always wanted a small wedding. Because of the hurricane, our ceremony was the intimate gathering we had originally envisioned.

Final Thought

They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck. If that’s true then a hurricane must mean the whole universe believes in our marriage just as much as we do.

#Vendorsthatgiveback : July Giving Highlights

July is Black Sheep Bride’s birthday month and boy has it been a fun, impact-filled, month indeed! As we grow and continue to use this platform to serve others and promote wedding professionals that value giving back, we wanted to start a series devoted to highlighting how our BSB #Vendorsthatgiveback have supported their communities each month! 1. Wedding World Changer Day- Tampa, FL : Our first BSB organized FREE wedding made possible by a group of generous business owners in Tampa, FL! This couple’s tender hearts for serving others awarded them the wedding of their dreams on 7/5/16. The groom is a firefighter and the bride is pursuing her degree in pediatric occupational therapy and volunteers regularly with children’s outreach, while also helping her mother fight a battle against cancer. It was truly a gift to be a part of this process from start to finish. Can’t wait to plan the next round in 2017. See the full recap here. Thankful Thursdays: Michele Renee The Studio, Tampa, FL

Thankful Thursdays is a series we started at the beginning of 2016 to bring awareness to our amazing BSB Vendors that Give Back and share how they use their businesses to serve the environment and their local and global communities! Today we are sharing The Giving Back Story of one of our Tampa BSB vendors, Michele Renee The Studio. When I first heard about Michele many years ago, she was holding a fundraiser for wells to be drilled in India and I knew she was my kind of gal! Fast forward several years and I couldn’t be more honored to have a part of our BSB Vendor Family!  13699595_10209222232260326_534650161_o Photo by Amita S. Photography Michele Renee The Studio is an on location hair and makeup studio specializing in weddings. However, even though they are hair and makeup artists, they believe that beauty comes from the inside out. Not only is it important to have a “beat” face and eyebrows on “fleek,” but it is also important to do good in your community. Michele Renee The Studio encourages giving throughout the year. Whether it is raising money for wells in India or collecting soup cans for Thanksgiving, Michele Renee The Studio is committed to giving back 10% of their profits each and every year. Peek-9 Photo by Jeanine Leigh Photography One charity Michele Renee The Studio is especially close to is a grassroots organization in Tampa Bay, where they’re headquartered, called My Hope Chest. My Hope Chest is the only national 501c3 social service organization focused on reconstructive surgery for uninsured and under insured breast cancer survivors. They are moved to ACT and our goal is to heal and provide closure to the breast cancer journey. By enabling those who desire reconstruction to have it, My Hope Chest works to help all survivors return to a “new” normal with feelings of hope, self-worth and completeness. 329141_10150364563826654_7108681_o My Hope Chest was founded by Alisa Savoretti in the fall of 2003. A breast cancer survivor and Las Vegas Showgirl, she was 38 and without insurance at the time of her diagnosis. Following a mastectomy and only 5 months after finishing her chemotherapy, Alisa returned to the Las Vegas stage and her career as a professional dancer – this time however, minus one breast. Billing herself as the “Lop-sided Showgirl”, Alisa shared her personal story and plans for an organization as a result of it, gaining media attention through a news story on the local CBS affiliate. Alisa had to wait nearly 3 years to acquire her own reconstruction. She realized then that there is a huge gap in treatment that existed for “uninsured” women suffering from a mastectomy. “I realized how my own self-esteem, confidence and self worth, as a woman, returned when I could look in the mirror and see my whole “physical” being once again. It was my healing, a restoration in body mind and spirit.” 13694146_10209222233180349_912319819_o For more information about booking Michele Renee The Studio for your next wedding hair and makeup needs, visit them HERE.
