Eco- Friendly Wedding that Gives Back: Ashley and Chris

Happy Earth Day to all of you! What a great day to encourage and remind us to use our planet wisely and with more intention every day of our lives and not just once a year! We wanted to feature a wedding that was sensitive to sustainability, giving back and eco-friendly alternatives and we found just the one, courtesy of our amazing BSB vendor, Oak and Honey Events. View More: http://janelleputrichphotography.pass.us/wedding-submission-ashley-chris We love what the bride had to share about why it was important to have a sustainable wedding day: ‘Chris and I have always been very eco-minded, but after purging most of our belongings and moving to Costa Rica in 2012, we had a whole new appreciation for reducing waste in the world. Chris proposed with an estate ring from the 1930s—we both love that it has a story and a history. From there, we found Melanie Tindell of Oak and Honey Events, who specializes in sustainable events, and she guided us toward a day we could really be proud of!’ View More: http://janelleputrichphotography.pass.us/wedding-submission-ashley-chris The couple was committed to keeping their wedding as environmentally friendly as possible by up-cycling a lot of their wedding decor, as well as sourcing locally. Spice of Life Catering provided delicious, sustainable, and locally grown food for the couple’s big day. Ashley and Chris also re-sold their wedding items at The Recycled Wedding Boutique, so that other couples could give their items a second life. In addition, prior to their wedding, the couple volunteered at the national park at which they were to be married, planting trees. Weddings That Give Back: Ashley & Josh, Michigan

One of our beloved Black Sheep Bride vendors, APaige Photography, tied the knot last fall and she was truly such an example of a genuine ‘Black Sheep Bride’. Having known her plans this whole year, it has been an anxious waiting game, but now it’s finally here to share! Thanks to one of our other super-radically-epic-and-loved BSB vendors, Everphoto for being there to document the day so awesomely! First thing we want to point out is Ashley’s dress. It was actually her mother’s wedding dress, they had refashioned by a local seamstress, Nimble Needles. Not only did Ashley wear her mom’s dress, they also got married on her parents property and on their wedding anniversary as well. (C) EVERPHOTO www.everphoto.net www.facebook.com/everphoto(C) EVERPHOTO www.everphoto.net www.facebook.com/everphoto(C) EVERPHOTO www.everphoto.net www.facebook.com/everphoto They gifted all the ladies in the bridal party (as well as sister-in-laws and moms) with Pura Vida bracelets. Wedding that Give Back- Natalie & Chris

There is one proven and universal ‘fact’ that I have learned from a very young age…. June, July and August are the fastest months of the year! Summer is officially coming to a close and we thought we would give you one last chance to savor the season with this gorgeous socially conscious-natural wedding set up, courtesy of Photography by Lauryn! Natalie, the bride, gave some sincere thought to be socially conscious and eco-friendly in her wedding planning process. Here is what she shared with us about their Big Day: ‘Our ceremony and reception were both held at a park district nature center. It is a beautiful natural place, and the building is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certified, so we were excited to support that. We were able to be married outside, which was important to us. In lieu of wedding favors, we decided to make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation. Every dollar plants a tree so we had one tree planted for every guest who attended.’ Broadhurst_Curtis_Photography_by_Lauryn_resized33Broadhurst_Curtis_Photography_by_Lauryn_resized22Broadhurst_Curtis_Photography_by_Lauryn_451 ‘My dress was purchased secondhand at a Brides Against Breast Cancer charity dress sale.
